Attorney Heather Courtney announced her candidacy for Caddo District Judge, seeking election to the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Mike Pitman after his many years of distinguished service on the bench.
"I want to thank Judge Pitman for his faithful service to the people of Caddo Parish and for the professionalism and integrity he has demonstrated throughout his judicial career," Courtney said. "His dedication to our community is deeply appreciated, and I wish him the best as he starts the next chapter in his career."
A graduate of Tulane Law School, Courtney has practiced law in Shreveport since 2010. Her legal experience includes serving as Supervising Attorney for the Caddo Parish Public Defender's Juvenile Division, counsel for the Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice, and law clerk to the Honorable Danny Ellender at the Louisiana Second Circuit Court of Appeal.
"As a judge, my responsibility will be to uphold the Constitution, apply the law as written, and ensure every person who enters the courtroom is treated with fairness, dignity, and respect," Courtney said. "The role of a judge is to interpret the law—not make it—and I will always remain committed to the rule of law and the impartial administration of justice."
Outside the courtroom, Courtney has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to the community through leadership and volunteer service. She currently serves as President of the North Caddo Medical Center Foundation Board, President of the FREE Coalition to End Human Trafficking, and President-elect of the North Shreveport Business Association. She is also the Immediate Past President of Rutherford House Boys Home.
Heather’s campaign has already earned the endorsement of several local elected officials.
