WILL SRAC AND CADDO COMMON CONTINUE TO OPPOSE PROVIDENCE HOUSE EXPANSION

Rebecca Bonnevier is the Executive Director of the Shreveport Regional Arts Council (SRAC),

Wendy Benscoter is the Executive Director of the Caddo Common Park.

SRAC’s headquarters is the Central Artstation on Crocket Street.

Caddo Common Park is located on Crocket Street.

Between Central Artstation and Caddo Common Park is a  green shed owned by The Providence House.

The Providence House wants to build a new facility at the green shed location to expand its program for homeless citizens.

The Shreveport Metropolitan Planning Commission (MPC) unanimously approved this plan

Caddo Commissioner Victor Thomas and SB Advocate's Liz Swaine opposed the project at the MPC meeting.

The Shreveport Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) unanimously approved this project.

Both Bonnevier and Benscoter opposed this project at the ZBA meeting.

They both expressed opposition at a special informational meeting sponsored by the MPC and the Downtown Development Authority.

The Shreveport City Council is set to vote on the MPC decision at its Tuesday (July 14).

Discussion of this proposal will be on the agenda for both Monday's (July 13) work session and Tuesday's meeting. Public comments can be made on both days.

One wonders if either of these two ladies will appear on either date to oppose this project.

SRAC, Shreveport Common and The Providence House all receive public funding and civic grants. Opposition by SRAC and/or Caddo Common could affect future fundraising for both organizations.
