WILL ARCENEAUX BREAK STREAK OF ONE TERM SHREVEPORT MAYORS

Ollie Tyler was a one term Shreveport mayor, serving from 2014 through 2017.
 
Following Tyler, Adrian Perkins was a one-term mayor, serving from 2018 through 2022.
 
Mayor Tom Arceneaux is finishing his first term, and the question is whether he will be another one-term mayor.
 
Unlike Tyler and Perkins, Mayor Tom came into office as an experienced politician, having served eighty years as a city councilman.
 
Tyler served as the Caddo School Superintendent. She had no political experience when she entered office as mayor and no experience in city government. She was the first female black Shreveport mayor.
 
Tyler was defeated by another political novice, Adrain Perkins a West Point and Harvard Law graduate. Like Tyler he had a major learning curve on city government that did not translate into effective government.
 
Both Tyler and Perkins were African American Democrats.
 
Arceneaux came into office as the most politically experienced mayor in Shreveport and he actively laid the foundation for his mayoral bid by years of civic involvement after this eight years on the Shreveport City Council.
 
Mayor Tom is a white Republican.
 
Usually, incumbent elected officials have an edge when it comes to re-election. But this was not the case with Tyler and Perkins.
 
Arceneaux has a massive campaign treasury, which was almost half a million at the end of 2025 and which no doubt exceeds the campaign funds of all six of his opponents by a large margin which most likely has grown substantially in 2026.
 
Mayor Tom faces a major challenge with the city's voter racial demographics which he overcame in 2022, which have only increased since that time.
 
The only safe bet is that Mayor Tom will be in the run-off, but it’s a long time until the primary election on November 3 and in today’s world of social media voter sentiment can change virtually overnight.
