John came to Shreveport in January of 1977 when he was transferred to Barksdale AFB.

He’s been active in Shreveport politics since deciding to make Shreveport his home.

John practiced law for 40 years and he now monitors local politics. He regularly attends Shreveport City Council and Caddo Parish Commission meetings.

John is published weekly in The Inquisitor, bi-monthly in The Forum News, and frequently in the Shreveport Times.

WILL SHREVEPORT AND BOSSIER CASINO INCOME CONTINUE TO DROP

Both the city of Shreveport and Bossier receive income from local casino revenues.
 
The Louisiana State Police August report showed statewide and local declines in riverboat gaming totals.
 
All six Shreveport-Bossier riverboat casinos reported lower August totals than July of this year and all six had lower revenues than August of last year.
 
August revenues dropped 5.8% from July of this year and more than 8% from August of last year.
 
Statewide all riverboat casinos showed a 5.3% drop in August from July of this year and a 6.1% drop from August of last year.
 
The proposed 2027 budget for Bossier City will require tapping into reserves.
 
The Shreveport proposed 2027 budget is yet to be released but the $6.9 million increase in police and fire payroll and planned pay raises for all city employees in 2027 could necessitate reserve spending.
 
No doubt the income projections of each city from casino revenues should be carefully reviewed when the respective 2027 budgets are adopted.
