Correction: Caddo Commission To Hand Out $1.4 Million To Local Groups In 2027

As always, Settle Talk regrets having ANY incorrect copy—and when learning of the same, promptly corrects the same.

The source of the funding for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) is from the Riverboat Gaming revenues and the Oil & Gas revenues received by the Parish, --not taxpayer dollars.

However, these Riverboat Gaming and Oil & Gas revenues could be used IN PLACE of taxes rather than giving it out to local groups.

How the Parish spends its revenues is always important but even more so with the $60 million bond package on the Nov. 3 ballot and the planned $10 million pickleball complex.

The Caddo Commission approved a $10 million pickleball complex WITHOUT voter approval and is now asking voters to approve a $60 million bond issue for a planned $70 million sports complex.

When the 2027 budget is approved AFTER the bond vote on Nov. 3, the Commission will dole out up to $1.4 million to local NGOs (non-governmental organizations). Commissioner Victor Thomas, who has headed up the evaluation of requests that total over $3.1 million, hopes that the appropriations will not exceed $1 million to these groups.
