Erin McCarty on her 710 KEEL radio show interviewed Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Executive Director Cedric Glover this morning (Wed.) and questioned him on his highly touted but to be delivered private downtown security patrol.
On Oct. 1 Big G (Glover) promised a new day/night for downtown Shreveport with the advent of a promised private downtown security patrol—for 90 days.
Guess what?
No contract has been signed, and Big G did not offer any positive indication of when or if it would be consummated, just saying “as soon as possible.”
As is his m.o., Glover talked about the grandiose work the DDA does to recruit downtown businesses, retain downtown businesses, and improve the number of downtown visitors/patrons. Yada yada yada—NONE of which has been accomplished in his two-plus years as DDA Executive Director at a salary exceeding $110,000.
As evidenced by the widely publicized incidents in the downtown area this past weekend, all of Big G’s talk about downtown being safe and people not doing in downtown what they would not do in their neighborhoods is more of his “all sizzle, no steak” rhetoric to encourage renewal of the DDA tax on Nov. 3 and to save his job.
