Francine “Monro” Brown, a candidate for the District E city council seat, objected to the Settle Talk column “Candidate Monro Brown Goes to D.C. Mardi Gras with Campaign Funds” that was published on Tuesday; see copy below.
She sent the following email:
"Dear John,
I did not attend the Mardi Gras Ball.
I paid for my travel and all my expenses out of pocket. Little do you know that we were allowed to claim the trip as a “political” event, therefore expenses.
Instead of printing lies, contact me via email."
Hmmmm.
Did she go to Mardi Gras, or not?
If she did and if she paid for her travel and expenses out of her pocket, why did she list these on the campaign expense report?
And while talking about expenses, maybe Monro can explain the following which she listed in her campaign report:
Protective under wear/weatherized under garments $67.90
Protective clothing for Washington D.C. political trip $233.29
Protective shoes for bad weather $106
Protective coat $23.96
Protective boots $36.98
Hey Monro—its TMI—too much information, especially on the under garments.
By the way -- What exactly are "protective under wear/weatherized under garments"?
On second thought, I don't want to know.
