James Green is ending a four year term on the Shreveport City Council. He currently serves as council president.
Green has previously served without distinction on the council. The same can be said for his current term.
Green's run-in at an optical shop was an embarrassment to the city. What was worse was his public manipulation of the incident which was clearly an abuse of his office.
It is presumed that Green will qualify for reelection as the council member for District F this next week.
Many have questioned if Green actually resides in his council district.
He does own a house in the district, but word on the street is that he actually sleeps in a house outside the district.
Like fellow council Alan Jackson it is apparent that Green does not think that the rules apply to him.
Maybe the fact he has his own church and radio show has misguided his thinking.
Green is a member of the old line African American politicians that have done little to help "his people" while beating the race drum and basking in the limelight of being an elected official. And on top of that, he is "a man of God."
All that put together does not exempt Green from legal requirements for being a Shreveport council member.
It is anticipated that Green will have a judicial election challenge once he qualifies.
This time around, he should not expect his political standing to assist him in the judicial arena.
Additionally his occupation as a minister should not be a factor in a court of law.
