WHEN IS CITY OF SHREVEPORT GOING TO PAY COURT ORDERED ATTORNEY FEES?

Its is ridiculous.

Its a black eye on the city of Shreveport.

Its another sign of indifference to citizens who must litigate to enforce their rights.

It is reflective of the Shreveport Airport Authority's gross negligence in performing their duties.

It is evidence of a city attorney's office that spends massive sums for legal fees to outside council and in the process incurs substantial liabilities for the city of Shreveport.

It is an issue that should be addressed by mayoral candidates, including the incumbent mayor.

The city was ordered to pay $124,346 thousand, YES one hundred twenty four thousand three hundred forty six dollars, on Dec. 8, 2021 in the Laurel R. Brightwell, et al. versus City of Shreveport and Jonathan Reynolds case. Court costs of $10,038 were also awarded.

The Shreveport Airport Authority is an enterprise fund, although the city pays its legal fees and judgements out of its general fees.

To date, more stalling by the city and these moneys are unpaid.

The city was ordered on Mar. 17, 2022 to pay attorney's fees of $10,000 and court costs of $800 in the Just Plane Fun, LLC. and Directional Properties, LLC litigation against the airport authority/the city.

These sums have not been paid as the city utilizes "stall tactics."

So why play legal games when losing lawsuits by Shreveport citizens?

How much money wasted with outside legal counsel in these cases?

Why is the city attorney following this strategy?

Why not properly evaluate cases before litigation is filed, or just after filing, to determine the merits and decide to resolve on the front end versus after big losses?

More legal fees are most likely due to successful litigants against the city.

Its time for a change in the city's legal defense strategy, procedure and policy.
