John came to Shreveport in January of 1977 when he was transferred to Barksdale AFB.

He’s been active in Shreveport politics since deciding to make Shreveport his home.

John practiced law for 40 years and he now monitors local politics. He regularly attends Shreveport City Council and Caddo Parish Commission meetings.

John is published weekly in The Inquisitor, bi-monthly in The Forum News, and frequently in the Shreveport Times.

He enjoys addressing civic groups on local government issues and elections.

 

TIMELINES FOR SPD AREA OFFICES, SUBSTATIONS, AND NEW HQ

Very timely information was provided to the Shreveport City Council Public Safety Committee on Tuesday concerning the Shreveport Police Department offices:

1.      The Kingston Road Area 4 office should be open by the end of this month;

2.      The Shreve City Area 2 office should also be open by month’s end—no later than mid-November;

3.      The SPD headquarters staff should move by mid-November to the South Pointe office complex;

4.      The total costs of the new Monkhouse SPD substation will be less than $1.7 million.

5.      The estimated total costs for the North Market substation will be approximately $2 million and the anticipated completion/move in should be February of next year;.

6.      The Cedar Grove Substation cost is estimated to be $1.9--$2million and completion is expected to be in July of next year;

7.      New SPD Headquarters at 1234 Texas Avenue is estimated to cost approximately $31.4 million with a estimated completion in late 2028.

Shreveport Chief Administrator Tom Dark advised the committee that there were sufficient funds to pay for the substations and the new SPD headquarters. These area offices, new substations and new SPD headquarters are significant improvements for SPD officers and public safety.
