QUESTIONS TO BE ANSWERED ON SHERIFF WHITEHORN’S DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CENTER

Sheriff Henry Whitehorn has announced the opening of a Domestic Violence Unit to begin April 13, 2026 at a temporary location in the Criminal Investigation Division office, located at 1501 Corporate Drive in Shreveport.

This location will serve as the initial hub for providing crisis intervention, safety planning, legal assistance, advocacy, and coordinated support services for victims seeking assistance.

Hopefully more information will be provided to the public WITHOUT the necessity of public records request which unfortunately has been the protocol instituted by Whitehorn.

Here is a preliminary list of questions:

  1. Days and hours of operation

  2. Number of employees at facility

  3. Training of employees at facility

  4. What legal assistance to be provided and by whom

  5. Identification of community partners to be involved

  6. Will SporTran have bus stop at this location and if so, what days and hours of Sportran service to this location.

The Sheriff is to be commended for taking this initiative. Hopefully there will be more transparency on the plans for this Unit, which unfortunately is not the practice of his office.
