Caddo DA: Sexual Assault Cases Top 2,000 In 2026

The Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office held a livestream discussion Wednesday with community members and local experts on ways to reduce sexual assaults in the area.

The event comes as the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office reports more than 2,000 sexual assault cases so far this year.

Prosecutors say there has been a rise in men preying on children through social media and luring them away from their parents -- a trend they say is reflected in a recent case.

Authorities say Daiquan Blackmon, 25, is accused of targeting a 14-year-old girl from New Jersey. According to Caddo deputies, Blackmon allegedly bought the teen a bus ticket to travel in October to Shreveport, where investigators allege he raped her.

Officials said cases like Blackmon’s highlight the need for collaboration among agencies to better protect children and adults.

During the panel, experts noted that more than 90% of sexual assaults are committed by someone the victim knows, including family members, coaches and teachers.

The district attorney’s office also reported an increase in sexting among children in Caddo Parish, with some cases involving children as young as 10. Officials attribute the rise to increased access to sexual content through social media.

Panelists outlined warning signs of possible sexual abuse, emphasizing that physical symptoms may not always be present.

“One of the points that Dr. Rodriguez made, and it’s so important to understand and embrace, is that after a sexual assault, a child might not have any physical symptoms,” said Britney Green, chief of domestic violence for the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office. “However, a child might not be able to focus in school, may become fearful or may make complaints about physical ailments.”

The panel also stressed the importance of early communication between parents and children, including teaching proper names for body parts and the “bathing suit rule,” which emphasizes that no one should touch areas covered by a bathing suit.

Blackmon faces charges including first-degree rape, tracking a child and pornography involving juveniles. He is scheduled to appear in court June 16.

Anyone who needs help or suspects sexual abuse is urged to contact law enforcement or call the local sexual assault hotline at 888-995-7273.
