The Shreveport Bossier African American Chamber of Commerce (SBAACC) has made application to the Caddo Commission to receive funding.
This request was reviewed by the Commission’s Appropriations Plan Committee, chaired by Victor Thomas, and the Economic Development Committee chaired by Stormy Gage-Watts at a meeting on May 27th of this year.
The SBAAC recently received funding from the State of Louisiana.
Reportedly former Caddo Commissioner and now state representative Steven Jackson presented the SBAACC with a $48,000 check.
Senator Sam Jenkins tendered a $100,000 state check to the SBAACC.
In a text message, Senator Jenkins stated that the state funds were to help the SBAACC “connect with opportunities at the Port, G-Unit, Amazon, Sky West and other major projects coming to the city. Also, I helped the Shreveport Chamber last year with funding for renovations to their building.'
The impact this funding will have on other funding sources for the SBAACC, including the Commission, The Community Foundation, and business donors is unknown.
