Ken Krefft5 of the 6 major NW LA sales taxing jurisdictions saw a rise in their August receipts, while the sixth was flat. The City of Shreveport levies its 2.75% sales and use tax rate, using a calendar fiscal year. Its August figure of $14,813,744 is 3.6% above the $14,296,023 in 2025.

UPDATE ON POSSIBLE LONGWOOD POWER GENERATION PLANT

The Public Service Commission (PSC) has NOT received any applications for permission to build a new power generation plant in north Caddo. This is a FACT. A PSC representative advises that SWEPCO has been working with PSC staff to apply for the needed Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity.

IS A NEW LONGWOOD  POWER GENERATION PLANT ON THE WAY

Speculation is more in the domain of talk radio or the Shreveport-Bossier Advocate, not Settle Talk. But here are some FACTS that underlie the murmurings that a new power generation plant MAY be on the way for the Blanchard area. “May” is the operative word.

WILL COMMISSION’S $75k WELCOME SIGN TORPEDO $60 MILLION SPORTS COMPLEX

Last Thursday (Sept. 3), the Caddo Commission voted to spend $75,000 on a Welcome to Caddo sign to be erected on I-20 coming into Caddo Parish from Texas. Commissioners Chris Kracman and John-Paul Young voted against this expenditure.

CADDO SHERIFF WHITEHORN PAID $50 GRAND MORE THAN PRATOR

State Rep. Michael Melerine, R-Shreveport, was detained in July after Caddo Parish deputies found him behind the wheel of an SUV that was stuck in a ditch. No charges were filed after the incident was determined to be related to a medical issue, according to Melerine’s attorney.

CCC INMATE COUNT INCREASES WHILE WHITEHORN SHERIFF

Henry Whitehorn was sworn in as Caddo Sheriff on July 1, 2024. One of Whitehorn’s campaign promises was to reduce the inmate population at the Caddo Correction Center (CCC). This facility was built to hold 1170 inmates. Currently the inmate population is approximately 1700.
